Austin's military footprint looks different from San Antonio's — smaller, more senior, and spread across the whole metro. Here is the housing side of a military move to Austin, from a veteran-led brokerage that works the entire Central Texas corridor.
There is no single gate in Austin. The military here is a headquarters, a Guard establishment, and a large veteran population — plus thousands of families who live in the metro while their service runs through the posts at either end of it:
Headquartered in downtown Austin since 2018, Futures Command brought a senior, joint-heavy military population to the capital — officers, senior NCOs, and the defense civilians building the Army's future.
Home of the Texas Military Department — the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard. Guard and Reserve families put down roots across the whole metro.
Austin sits in the middle of the corridor: Fort Cavazos about an hour north, Joint Base San Antonio further down I-35 to the south. Some families assigned to either post choose Austin life and run the commute — deliberately, with the math done first.
A large share of Austin's military moves are the last move: retirement to the Hill Country edge, a second career in the tech corridor, and VA health care through the Central Texas VA system.
Closest to Fort Cavazos and the strongest value per square foot in the metro, with highly rated districts (Round Rock ISD, Georgetown ISD). The default pick for Cavazos commuters.
Hill Country edge, Leander ISD, and newer subdivisions — popular with Futures Command and Guard families who put schools first.
The metro's most budget-friendly growth corridor, with a quick run to Camp Mabry and downtown via I-35 and SH-130.
Halfway to San Antonio — the pick for families split between the two metros, or reporting south who want Austin-side living.

Infinity Family Properties & Associates is led by Ian Alkire — 14 years in the U.S. Army, retired Sergeant First Class, then five years with the Department of Homeland Security — and his wife Jazmene "Jazz" Alkire, our Broker of Record. Between them: four-plus years deployed, and more Permanent Change of Station moves than they can count on one hand. This brokerage was built for the move you are making, by people who have made it — and we work the corridor end to end, from Fort Cavazos through Austin to San Antonio.
Ian and Jazz are also listed on VeteranPCS's Texas page, a national directory of veteran and military-spouse agents — one more place military families find us, and check us out, before they ever call.

Is Austin a military town like San Antonio?
No — and it helps to know that going in. San Antonio is Military City USA, built around Joint Base San Antonio. Austin's military community is a headquarters population (Army Futures Command), the Texas Guard at Camp Mabry, and one of the largest veteran populations in Texas — plus families living mid-corridor between Fort Cavazos and JBSA. The housing questions are the same; the map is different, and this page is that map.
Can we live in Austin and commute to Fort Cavazos?
Yes — from Round Rock or Georgetown the run to the Fort Cavazos gates is about an hour in normal traffic, and many families make exactly that trade: Austin schools and amenities against a longer drive. Your BAH is set by your duty station, not your address, so we run the full math — housing cost, commute cost, and quality of life — before you commit to either side of it.
Can you help us buy before we arrive in Austin?
Yes. Most of our relocating families start remote: video walk-throughs, honest condition notes, and a contract timeline built backwards from your report date. You should never buy a house sight-unseen without someone on the ground whose only job is your side of the table.
What does it cost to work with you on a relocation?
Buyer representation is spelled out in writing before we start — who pays what, and how much. No surprises at the closing table, and no stack of third-party fees added on top: we are not tied into any vendor for leads, and we never tack a lead fee onto your transaction.
